Profile of the Western China International Economy and Trade Fair

　　Western China International Economy and Trade Fair is co-sponsored by those seven ministerial organizations such as the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce, National Bureau of Quality Inspection, CCPIT, Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, National Chamber of Industry and Commerce, National Trading Cooperatives General and those 12 provinces and municipalities such as Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Guangxi and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps to carry out the Great Strategy of West Development.

　　The Western China International Economy and Trade Fair assembles the functions of “commodity exhibition, economic and trade exchange, investment promotion and theoretical seminar” on one platform, takes the tenet of co-organizing and co-winning with western regions. With 8 years’ experience, it has become the important platform to carry out the Great Strategy of West Development, to conduct international economic exchanges and cooperation; the important windows to show the deep historical and cultural deposits of West China, the fruitful achievements of reform and open policy, and to exhibit the bright prosperity of development.

　　The Western China International Economy and Trade Fair has been highly appreciated by the Central Committee and State Council, several national leaders attended the conferences and gave instructions. During his tenure in Sichuan, Mr. Zhou Yongkang, standing member of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China, secretary of the Political and Judiciary Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, took part in the organizing and superintending of the conference and fair in person. Former Vice premier Wu Yi sent her greeting letters for twice and came to the conference once in person. Former Vice premier Zeng Peiyan came to the conference in person for three times. Former Vice chairman of National People’s Congress, Xu Jialu, Simayi Aimaiti; vice chairmen of CPPCC Huang Mengfu, Bai Lichen, former vice chairmen of CPPCC Sun Fuling, Li Meng and other leaders attended the opening ceremonies of the conferences one after another. The leaders from those ministerial organizations such as Ministry of Commerce, the West Development Office of State Council, National Bureau of Quality Inspection, CCPIT, Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, National Chamber of Industry and Commerce, National Trading Cooperatives General came to the conferences in person for several times. Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, and He Houhua, Chief Executive of Macao SAR also attended the conferences.

　　Statistics data show that the attending enterprises of the previous 8 fairs reached 15,000 with exhibition area of 320,000 square meters. More than 300 high level forums and economic events were held. Those foreign business people came from more than 100 countries and regions. 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities from the mainland and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan organized their exhibitions and attended the conferences. Over 3000 investment contracts have been signed with the total value of RMB 150 billion and the trade volume exceeding 130 billion RMB. In particular, during the 8th West China International Trade and Fair held in 2007, Eastern and Central regions organized large delegations to the exhibitions and conferences. Western provinces and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps signed all kinds of contracts and agreements related to investment promotion, trade and exhibitions, etc., the total volume reached 113 billion yuan, among which the official contracts for investment promotion items were 542, and capital invested from eastern and central regions, and foreign capital amounted to 55.729 billion yuan. West China Fair has been a wide platform for domestic and foreign industrial transfer, where “West-West Cooperation” goes deeper, “East-West Cooperation” goes closer and “China-Foreign Cooperation” makes continuous breakthroughs. West China Fair has become the brand of large scale Trade Fair of “First in the West, First Level in China and Famous in the World”, so it has become an important stage for West China to go to the world. It has also been proved that West China International Trade and Fair has strong vitality.
